At 8:08 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2018, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad and Kent County EMS was dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Collision (High Mechanism) at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Brown Street. At the time, personnel and units from Chestertown VFC were also operating a Watercraft in Distress incident near Cliffs City in Quaker Neck.
The collision on Washington Avenue involved the rescue truck (Rescue 5) from the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company. This unit was responding as Mutual Aid to Cliffs City for the Watercraft in Distress incident. As a result of the collision, Rescue 5 went off the opposite side of the roadway. It came to rest upright in the front yards of several houses.
While no emergency personnel on Rescue 5 were injured, the driver of the automobile was evaluated by EMS and subsequently transported to University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. The condition of the patient is not known at this time. The collision circumstances are being investigated by the Chestertown Police Department.
