On Wednesday, 14 March 2018 at 10:59 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched as Mutual Aid to the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company for a Dwelling Fire in the 11000 block of Station Road. This is located in the unincorporated community area of Kent County known as Big Woods.
Callers were reporting the house “Fully Involved” with all occupants out of the structure. Kennedyville VFC’s Engine 4 arrived and commenced an interior fire suppression attack. Not long after the arrival of Engine 4, equipment from Chestertown VFC arrived to help. Our crews deployed two (2) 1-3/4″ fire hoses through the front door of the structure to support the crew from Engine 4. As most of the fire was located in the attic space, the bulk of the work involved pulling the ceiling to get at it.
Choptank Electric came to the scene and disconnected the electric power.
With the house uninhabitable, the Red Cross was notified and came to the scene. They assisted the residents of house with temporary accomodations.
The Maryland State Fire Marshals Office was notified and responded. They conducted an Origin & Cause investigation. We do not know what that result is. Please contact the Fire Marshals Office for further information.
There were no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.
Chestertown equipment and personnel cleared / returned to station just before 2 am Thursday morning.
