At approximately 2:50 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched as Automatic Aid to the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company for the Motor Vehicle Collision with Entrapment, Maryland 213 & Ramsey Lane, in front of the Ramsey GMC Dealership.
Units arrived to find two vehicles involved in a rear-end type collision. During the collision, Vehicle #2, the vehicle struck from behind, rotated into a secondary collision with Vehicle #1, the impacting vehicle. After sustaining severe damage, Vehicle #1, the impacting vehicle, traveled off the right side of the road and got tangled up in the guardrail.
The driver of Vehicle #2 was able to self-extricate from the vehicle. The driver of Vehicle #1 was found to be pinned within the vehicle. Crews from Church Hill VFC and Chestertown VFC worked together to perform this extrication. Using hydraulic rescue tools, the driver's door was removed, a relief cut placed in the floor and a dash roll executed. The patient was then removed from the vehicle to a waiting ambulance.
The patient of Vehicle #1 was subsequently airlifted by Maryland State Police Aviation to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The driver of Vehicle #2 was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown for evaluation. The condition of both patients is not known at this time.
Maryland 213 was briefly closed during this incident.
