On Thursday, March 21, 2019, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company hosted a walk-through of the new Dixon Valve & Coupling warehouse and distribution center. The new Dixon Complex is located on Warner Drive, located behind the Washington Square Shopping Center. In addition to members of Chestertown VFC, personnel from the Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad and fire companies from both Kent County and Queen Annes County were represented. We were a rather large group. Dinner consisting of pizza and wings, with soda and water, was provided for all.
After brief introductory remarks and an overview provided by Dixon Warehouse Manager Brian Ford, we broke down into a number of groups, which were guided by representatives of Dixon Valve and KRM Development. Personnel were taken on a guided tour of the warehouse operation and the building's office spaces. We looked at various fire safety features which have been incorporated into the building. The structure is completely covered by fire suppression sprinklers. We also got a look at the fire sprinkler riser, which is the heart and soul of any fire suppression sprinkler system. We also viewed the building's electric distribution system, critical knowledge should there be an emergency where the electric needs to secured. The building representatives fielded questions about the building and it's systems.
The Chestertown VFC expresses appreciation to Dixon Valve for allowing your Public Safety Community the opportunity to tour their facility. Partnerships like this are essential to providing safe and efficient fire and life safety protection.
