Dwelling Fire - Kennedy Drive, Chestertown

Thursday, April 4, 2019

On Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at approximately 6:29 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, along with mutual aid companies, was dispatched for a Dwelling Fire in the 100 block of Kennedy Drive in Washington Park. This is located off Flatland Road near the Kent County Detention Center. The 9-1-1 caller reported flames and smoke near the front door of the home.

First arriving units found a small area on fire in the wall near the lower left corner of the front door. The fire was quickly extinguished and personnel checked for extension. "Extension" is when fire spreads unseen beyond the immediate and visible area of fire damage. After a brief Origin & Cause Investigation, it was determined the fire started as the result of Improperly Discarded Smoking Materials.

There were no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.

Photographs are available to the media for reproduction.
