Motor Vehicle Collision - Chestertown Road, Chestertown

On Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 12:20 pm, the Chestertown VFC, K&QA Rescue Squad, Rock Hall VFC, and Kent County EMS was dispatched to Chestertown Road (Maryland 20) & Brices Mill Road for the Motor Vehicle Collision with Injuries. The actual location proved to be on Chestertown Road approximately half-way between Brices Mill Road and Orchard Drive.

Arriving units found a two-vehicle “Head-On” type crash with a total of five (5) patients. None of the patients were found to be entrapped. EMS (Emergency Medical Services) evaluated all patients. Two adult patients refused medical treatment / transport at the crash scene. A third adult patient was transported by ground to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown for evaluation. The remaining two patients were pediatric. As a precaution, it was decided to airlift both to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Maryland State Police Aviation was requested and responded. Two ambulances (K&QA Rescue Squad & Rock Hall VFC) transported both patients to the Landing Zone, which was on Morgnec Road / Chestertown Bypass (Maryland 291) across from the K&QA Rescue Squad station. It should be noted that both patients were awake, and the medevac was entirely precautionary. An additional EMS transport unit, Queen Annes County DES Paramedic 500 out of the Church Hill station, transported the 3rd patient to Shore Medical Center in Chestertown. The conditions of all three transported patients is not known at this writing.

Chestertown VFC personnel assisted with fluids and debris clean-up and stood by at the scene while both vehicles were removed by roll-back trucks. Chestertown Road (Maryland 20) was completely closed for the duration of the incident.

Chestertown VFC operated at this incident for just over an hour. There were no injuries to emergency personnel.
