Fire Safety Program
Chestertown Christian Academy
Friday, October 9, 2020
On Friday, October 9, 2020 members of the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company traveled to the Chestertown Christian Academy. With October being Fire Safety Month, we took the opportunity to stop by, say hello and talk about fire safety. With four (4) classes, Chief John “Otis” Darling and Driver / Operator Phillip Russum presented fire safety information. We talked about calling 9-1-1 in an emergency, what to do when the smoke alarm goes off, fire drills in school and at home. We also talked about “Stop, Drop & Roll” if clothing catches on fire. We also gave a short tour of the engine and tower, along with some of the equipment we carry.
We had Firefighters Michael McGinnis & James Bedford put on their protective gear, including an air pack, to show the children what we look like and sound like when we're fully suited up. Many thanks to the teachers and staff for inviting us out to meet the children, talk about fire safety, and tell them a little bit about what we do. We then answered questions and listened to stories the children shared.
