Company Training - Tower 6

Thursday, April 29, 2021

On Monday, April 27, 2021, we held our bi-monthly company drill, routinely held the 2nd & 4th Monday night of the month.

We reviewed the procedure for using the elevating platform lifting brindle, the stokes arms, and use of the Stokes basket.

Occasionally, more infrequent if anything, we’re called upon to evacuate a victim from an elevated location. These situations are always problematic. If not executed perfectly, the results could prove dire.

Because we’re not often called upon to perform this type of evacuation, we must occasionally practice it as a training exercise.

We used the roof of the fire station as a starting platform. Weight was loaded into the Stokes basket to simulate a patient. Our Tower was correctly configured for the lift. A Tag Line was attached to the Stokes basket to control it during the descent.

Members were provided the opportunity to configure the basket and rig the Stokes basket for the lift.

We’re happy to report the “patient” was safely evacuated to the ground multiple times.

And so…. Our quest to provide the best possible service to our community continues.
