Inside the Station - Member Spotlight

Wednesday, August 18, 2021

Recently, Ms. Ada Joyner was selected as the member to be spotlighted. Miss Ada is an Associate Member, having joined the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company through the Auxiliary in 1989. Since that time, she has been extremely active on the administrative side of our operation. As with every volunteer / community service organization, there are people that can always be counted on. In that respect, Miss Ada is one of our mainstays. Over the years, her attendance record at fund raisers, and other activities in support of our firefighting / emergency response activities, is nearly 100%. Her dedication and work ethic is a force to be reckoned. This writer can remember few activities where she wasn’t in attendance. Her good-natured, relaxed manner makes her easy to work with and fun to be around.

Miss Ada has the notable and proud distinction of having close family involved with the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company. Back in the 1980’s, a son… Richard Spray, promoted through our ranks to become an Assistant Chief. After that, he started a family and his focus switched to them. Another son, Claude Joyner, entered the fire company through our Explorer Post, also in the 1980’s. He promoted through the ranks and was elected Fire Chief. He is still active and is currently serving as one of our Assistant Chiefs. Miss Ada’s daughter, Cindy Morris, has served ably as our Company Secretary for the last few years. Grandchildren Katie Morris and Christopher Spray are also members. Katie is a firefighter and Chris is an Associate Member. Christopher was a Member Spotlight a few months ago.

Miss Ada recently retired, which allows more time for the fire company. She enjoys spending time with family. To relax, she enjoys doing puzzles.

Please join us in showing Miss Ada our gratitude and appreciation for 32 years of quiet, dependable service to the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, and to the Chestertown / Kent County community.
