Inside the Station - Member Spotlight

Wednesday, November 3, 2021

Recently, Justin Parsons was selected to be profiled as our “Inside the Fire Station – Member Spotlight”. Justin entered the Chestertown VFC through our Explorer Post in 2003. The Exploring program is a Boy Scouts of America coeducational program designed to provide young people with potential career experiences in different fields. Our program provided experience for those interested in becoming full-time firefighters.

Justin is a second-generation firefighter, following in the footsteps of his mother and father, William “Doggie” Parsons and Jean Parsons. Prior to their passing, both were members of long-standing with the Chestertown VFC, where they were extremely active and supportive of our mission.

After aging out of the Exploring program in 2004, he transitioned into the fire company as a Regular Member. Starting as a Firefighter, he has promoted through the ranks where, at various times, he’s served as an Engineer (Driver/Pump Operator), Lieutenant, and Captain. He has also served on our EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Committee. Currently, he is serving as an Engineer.

Justin moved to Centreville (Maryland) for a few years, where he was… and is still, a member of the Goodwill Fire Company. He is currently serving as their Chief Engineer. A Chief Engineer is primarily responsible for vehicle maintenance and ensuring proper driver / pump operator training.

Justin is employed full-time with Queen Annes County Department of Emergency Services as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher with the rank of Sergeant. As part of the Queen Annes County DES, he is a member of their Honor Guard where he serves as the Assistant Commander. He also works the equivalent of a full-time job as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad here in Chestertown. He also maintains part-time employment as a Firefighter / Emergency Medical Technician with the Cecilton VFC in Cecil County.

Despite his busy work schedule, Justin finds time to spend with family, his wife Amanda, and children Aubrey and Matthew. They live just across the bridge, near Chester Harbor. For leisure when time can be found, they enjoy traveling about, camping in their RV.

Please join us in thanking and congratulating Justin on nearly two decades of solid, dependable service with the Chestertown VFC.
