On Sunday, February 12, 2023, at 1:09 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for a Small Brush Fire near the intersection of Morgnec Road (Maryland 291) and Haacke Drive. After some initial uncertainty as to the location, the fire was found in the trees & scrub brush directly behind Kent Plaza Shopping Center, near the rear of the ACME. Our best access was the service road behind the shopping center.
First arriving found a pile of wood, debris, etc., burning in an area frequented by vagrants, as evidenced by the debris and clutter found there. This is not the first small fire we’ve had at this location. Firefighters deployed one hose line and made fast work of extinguishing the fire. The Chestertown Police Department was requested to the scene to interview a potential witness as to how the fire may have started. No further information on that situation.
Crews operated at this incident for approximately 40 minutes. There were no injuries.
