On Monday, July 3, 2023, at 1:19 pm, near the intersection of Chestertown Road (Maryland 20) and Old Fairlee Road, Rock Hall VFC Paramedic 7 happened upon a single vehicle crash involving a utility pole. Paramedic 7 was returning to their station after delivering a patient to the hospital. Apparently, the crash had just occurred moments before. The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad, Kent County EMS, and multiple other mutual aid companies were subsequently dispatched.
Assessing the crash scene, Paramedic 7 personnel discovered the car's doors were jammed. The patient was unable to get out of the vehicle. As a result, the incident was upgraded to a Rescue Box. Upon arrival, personnel from Rescue Engine 6, utilizing our Hurst hydraulic rescue system, removed the driver door… an operation described as a “Door Pop”. At that point, the patient was then removed from the vehicle. A thorough assessment of the patient’s condition was completed. The patient was transported to the University of Maryland Shore - Medical Center at Chestertown for evaluation and treatment.
Traffic operations on Chestertown Road (Maryland 20) at the crash scene were reduced to one-lane operation for the duration of the incident.
