With deep, abiding sadness, the officers and members of the Chestertown VFC regretfully announce the untimely passing of Life Member Calvin “Cappy” Patrick. Cappy was a long-time member of the Chestertown VFC family. He started his journey with us as a Junior Firefighter in 1962.
With a brief interruption where he honorably and heroically served as a Marine in Vietnam, his service as a firefighter/engineer (our designation for a driver / pump operator) to the Chestertown / Kent County community continued into the early 1980’s. After a brief respite where his focus was on family, he served as President of the fire company, the administrative leader of our organization. Continuing his role as a fire company administrative leader, after his term as President, he served on the fire company Board of Directors.
Many former members, and Life Members, of the Chestertown VFC… including this writer, fondly remember Cappy’s contribution to our development as firefighters. To him, we owe a debt of gratitude. He was an Associate Advisor to Post 490, a Boy Scouts of America Firemanship program chartered to the Chestertown VFC. Specifically, for a time, Cappy led the efforts to teach and train us young people as firefighters. His teaching efforts were sometimes stern, but those of us who have survived to become long-time firefighters and Life Members recognize he had our best interests in mind, wanting nothing more than for us to be successful.
Please keep the family and friends of Cappy in your thoughts and prayers as they negotiate this painful, difficult, and challenging time. Here are the arrangements…
