On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 3:33 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for the large field fire in the 9200 block of Stockton Startt Road. This is located between Flatland Road and Earl Nicholson Road. Deputy Chief 6 (Brad Russum) was first arriving, and found the fire well-advanced.
Upon arrival, there was about 10 acres burning. As the fire was wind driven, it was growing fast and would eventually involve 22 acres. Mutual Aid was required for additional brush trucks, tankers, and manpower. Thankfully, the field (which had recently been corn) had been harvested. There was only stubble in the field.
We operated on this incident for approximately 2 hours. Our thanks and appreciation to the Sudlersville VFC for filling our station with an engine, ensuring continued fire and life safety protection for our community.
