On Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 6:36 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched as mutual aid to the Kennedyville VFC for the Farm Vehicle Fire on Wallis Road. This location is in Kennedyville VFC’s first due district, but very close to the boundary with Chestertown VFC first due. Chestertown units were nearby at the time of dispatch and were the first to arrive on the fire scene at 6:38 pm.
First arriving Chestertown VFC units found one Combine harvester 75% involved with fire. An 1-3/4” fire hose was deployed, and the fire attack commenced. Kennedyville VFC Brush 4 and Tanker 4 arrived soon after and assisted with fire extinguishment. Because of a large amount of hydraulic fluid that was leaking and had ignited, a foam line was deployed from Tanker 4. (Firefighting Foam is used to control fires involving petroleum products.)
Overhaul, the process whereby the fire is completely out, involved extensive work. Chestertown VFC personnel were committed to this incident for approximately 90 minutes. There were no injuries.
