On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 3:09 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched as mutual aid to the Rock Hall VFC for the Garage fire in the 8900 block of Georgetown Road, which is located between Bay Shore Road and Cross Road. The caller was reporting fire in what turned out to be a detached garage.
Rock Hall VFC Engine-Tanker 7 and our Tower 6 arrived nearly simultaneously, with the Tower slightly ahead. The tower entered the driveway, with Engine-Tanker 7 pocking up a supply hose that had been stretched to supply the tower. The fire was found to be in the roof area of the building, with the cause determined as electrical in nature.
The crew from Tower 6 deployed an 1-3/4” hose from the tower to attack the fire. They achieved a quick knock-down. Our crew also handled securing power to the structure and performing Overhaul, which is the process of ensuring the fire is completely out.
The total response of Chestertown VFC equipment included Tower 6, Tanker 6, Engine 6, & Rescue–Engine 6.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified, but did not respond. A representative spoke by cell phone with the Incident Commander, Assistant Chief 7-1 Kelly – Rock Hall VFC.
There were no injuries because of this incident.
