On Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 9:55 pm, the Chestertown VFC was dispatched as automatic mutual aid to the Rock Hall VFC, for a reported Garage Fire in the 6900 block of Hagy Road, which is off Burris Road, off Swan Creek Road, which is off Tolchester Road (Maryland 445). See attached map for detail.
Engine-Tanker 7 (Rock Hall VFC), first arriving… found a Single-Family Dwelling, approximately 3000 square feet, with heavy, wind-driven fire in the garage area. Rock Hall’s crew made an impressive fire attack and achieved a textbook knock down of the fire. (Arriving Chestertown VFC personnel supported and assisted their efforts.)
Our Engine 68 and Tower 6 arrived simultaneously. Engine 68 dropped 1000’ of 5” supply hose (the entire truck bed of 5” line) from Burris Road up to the fire scene. Hagy Road is a dead-end with a cul-de-sac. There is no room in there for tanker operations. Water was shuttled in Burris Road, then pumped to the scene.
As our personnel came up to the house, we deployed an additional 1-3/4” hose line from Engine 68, the crew from Tower 6 handled ventilation of smoke, and our crew on Rescue-Engine 6 secured the electric service to the home.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The fire marshal was requested. A representative from the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office came to the scene and conducted an Origin & Cause investigation. At this writing on Tuesday, the result of that investigation is not known to this writer.
