Tuesday, October 7, 2025
On Monday, September 29, 2025, at 8:07 am, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad, and Kent County EMS, along with other mutual aid companies were dispatched to the Motor Vehicle Crash: Unknown Injuries, Morgnec Road (Maryland 291 Bypass) & Talbot Boulevard. 9-1-1 Caller(s) were reporting a 2-Vehicle Crash. Initially, this incident was reported in the traffic circle by Royal Farms.
Deputy Chief 6 / Russum was first arriving, reported two vehicles… One in the roadway – on fire, one just off the roadway. There was a total of five (5) patients… Four in one vehicle (adult & juveniles), one in the other vehicle. One patient was transported by EMS to the University of Maryland Shore Hospital at Chestertown for the evaluation of very minor injuries.
Prior to the arrival of Engine 68 , a civilian bystander employed a portable fire extinguisher to knock down a small engine fire in the one vehicle. Our personnel proceed to complete extinguishment and disconnect the vehicle battery, guarding against the possibility of re ignition.
With the approval of the Chestertown Police Department, once the vehicle in the middle of the road was secure, i.e., the fire was out and battery disconnected, firefighters pushed that vehicle out of the travel lane. For those unfamiliar with this location, it’s on one of the busiest commuter routes in Chestertown.
This crash occurred at the worst possible time for local commuters. With the road closed for approximately 30 minutes, it didn’t take long for a back up to develop. It was everyone’s goal to get this artery reopened ASAP. The public is reminded patience is in order in these difficult situations.
