Motor Vehicle Collision - Hanseville Road, Chestertown

On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 6:08 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad, Kent County EMS, and other Mutual Aid companies were dispatched for the Motor Vehicle Crash with Unknown Injury, in the 10300 block of Hanesville Road. This location is between Flatland Road (Maryland 514 – the cut-off towards Great Oak) and Fairlee Road (Maryland 298).

Callers were reporting a motorcycle down, with someone possibly lying in the bushes. First arriving confirmed an individual off the roadway, in Trauma Arrest (Cardiac Arrest related to Trauma, not Medical reasons.) Life-Saving Resuscitation was initiated. After radio consultation with a Trauma Physician in Baltimore, resuscitation efforts were discontinued, and the individual was declared deceased.

The crash scene was turned over to the Kent County Sheriffs Office. A Crash Reconstruction Team from the Maryland State Police was also requested by Kent Sheriff to assist with the investigation. Hanesville Road was closed for an undetermined amount of time. Fire Police from the Chestertown VFC and Kent Queen Annes Rescue Squad handled the initial closure. For the extended closure, State Highway Administration / Maryland Department of Transportation was requested. Once they arrived, they assumed responsibility for the closure and subsequent detour.
