At 9:31 pm on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, along with multiple Mutual Aid companies, was dispatched for the structure fire at the Kent County Public Safety Complex, 104 Vickers Drive, Chestertown. There was a smoke condition in the mechanical / boiler room.
First - arriving, Engine 68 went out in investigating. They encountered no smoke, but an odor of burning inside the aforesaid building space. No cause was immediately apparent. Kent County Facilities Maintenance was already on the way.
After the arrival of facilities maintenance, the cause was still unclear but was believed to be related to the building HVAC system. Facilities Maintenance put in an after-hours call to the county contracted HVAC vendor. With the situation under control, the building was turned over to Facilities Maintenance. Engine 68 then cleared and returned to the station.
