With great, abiding sadness, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company announces the passing of Betsy Ann Vollmerhausen Douglas. Betsy joined our fire company in 2007, where along with husband Jim, she went on to operationally serve in the capacity as volunteer Fire Police, managing traffic flow at / near fire and other emergency incidents.
Betsy was a devoted member of the Trinity Lutheran Church here in Chestertown. As such, she was appointed to be Assistant Chaplain to Reverend Leon Frison, fire company Chaplain. In this capacity, when Pastor Frison was not available, she would serve in his stead. Additionally, Betsy served as the chair of our Sunshine Committee, charged with bringing cheer to members struggling with illness, and taking the lead for the fire company by sending out birthday and congratulatory (birthdays, marriages, birth of children, etc.) cards to our members. Betsy was extremely active with all aspects of the Chestertown VFC. Unless she was diverted by other obligations, she rarely missed one of our fund-raising activities.
Betsy’s contributions to the fire company were many and varied. Her absence has left a void in our hearts, and a hole in the heart of the fire company. We shall feel this loss for a long time.
Below, we’ve included a link to her obituary. To perpetuate her memory, the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, consider monetary donations to either the Chestertown VFC, and / or Trinity Lutheran Church.
