At 12:39 am on Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, with multiple mutual aid companies, was dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Roosevelt Drive, Washington Park, which is off Flatland Road (Maryland 514), for the structure fire. The 9-1-1 caller was reporting fire in / from the wall adjacent to the living room fireplace. The family had been alerted to the fire by their dogs barking.
With the assistance of first arriving EMS and Law Enforcement, the home was successfully evacuated. Arriving firefighting crews deployed hose lines and entered the house. They found fire in the walls with extension into the attic. The cause of the fire was traced to a faulty fireplace.
Delmarva Power was called to secure power to the home. The family did not require emergency housing assistance from the Red Cross, they would be staying with family.
We operated at this fire for a little over 2-1/2 hours. There were no injuries.
