Building Fire - Camp Road, Chestertown

Monday, July 13, 2026

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, just after 4:30 p.m., the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company and numerous mutual aid companies were dispatched for a reported structure fire on Camp Road in Chestertown.

As the Kent County 9-1-1 Center received multiple reports of the fire, a Working Fire Dispatch was automatically initiated. This response brings additional apparatus and personnel to the scene, ensuring adequate staffing and resources, especially during periods of extreme heat.

Deputy Chief 6 arrived and reported a fully involved 20' x 30' detached two-car garage with no exposure to the nearby residence or surrounding structures. Squad 6 arrived shortly thereafter and deployed a single attack line, supplied by Tanker 6, to begin an aggressive fire attack.

Additional mutual aid companies assisted with extinguishment and overhaul operations while EMS personnel established a rehabilitation (rehab) area to monitor firefighters and ensure they remained hydrated and medically fit to continue operating in the high temperatures.

Delmarva Power and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office were requested to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Thankfully, no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel were reported.

While crews operated at the fire scene, Queen Anne's Engine 45 (Goodwill) transferred to the Chestertown station to provide coverage for our district. While standing by, they were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with injuries in Kennedyville. As Engine 45 became committed to that incident, Community Fire Company of Millington Engine 2 immediately offered station coverage for Chestertown. While en route to our station, they were requested to assist with a medical emergency in Chestertown, ensuring uninterrupted emergency coverage for our community throughout the incident.

Chestertown units cleared the scene at approximately 6:21 p.m.

We would like to thank the dedicated firefighters, EMS personnel, fire police, dispatchers, and our mutual aid partners for their outstanding teamwork and professionalism. Incidents like this demonstrate the strength of our mutual aid system and the commitment of so many agencies working together to protect our community.
