During the Severe Thunderstorm on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 5:35 pm, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to the 200 block of Kent Circle for a tree down into a house. First arriving Squad 6 found a large tree in the backyard had been both partially uprooted and snapped by straight-line winds. (There were no reports of tornado activity in Chestertown.) There were no injuries.
The back porch roof and gutter of the home sustained significant damage. The tree punched through the roof decking, breaking a roof joist and partially collapsing the ceiling below on the porch.
The crew requested the Building Inspector, made a thorough inspection for any hidden hazards. None were found. Scene management was turned over to the Building Inspector, at which time Squad 6 returned to station.
Homeowners and others with property management responsibility are reminded…. If you have trees which may pose a concern, it’s a good idea to have it... or them, inspected by a licensed and insured arborist.
