While responding, Rescue Engine 6 was advised by Kent Dispatch that Maryland State Police and the Kent County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene of a single-vehicle crash. The sole occupant had self-extricated from the vehicle, which was fully involved in fire. The fire had also extended into the nearby wooded area. Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company was subsequently dispatched to assist.

Due to the location of the incident, Rescue Engine 6 also requested assistance from Crumpton Volunteer Fire Company.

Upon arrival, Rescue Engine 6 confirmed the reported conditions and immediately began extinguishment operations on both the vehicle and the surrounding woods fire while EMS personnel provided care to the injured occupant.

Due to the severity of the patient’s injuries, Maryland State Police Aviation was requested to provide rapid transport to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Once the bulk of the fire was extinguished, Kennedyville units were redirected to establish and operate the landing zone for the helicopter. Crumpton units were subsequently placed in service.

Rescue Engine 6 remained on the scene with law enforcement and the tow company while Chestertown Fire Police assisted with maintaining the road closure and traffic control.

Morgnec Road remained closed for a little over one hour before being reopened.

No injuries were reported among fire department personnel operating at the scene.
