At 2:04 pm on Thursday, July 30, 2020, the Chestertown VFC, Kennedyville VFC, Kent & Queen Annes Rescue Squad, Betterton VFC, Rock Hall VFC, Crumpton VFC, Church Hill VFC, and Kent County EMS was dispatched to the 10300 block of Augustine Herman Highway (Maryland 213) for the Motor Vehicle Collision with Unknown Injuries. The crash location was between Hopewell Corner (Maryland 213 & Maryland 297 – Suds & Soda) and Hassengers Corner (Maryland 213 & Maryland 561 – Chestertown Animal Hospital). The precise location is locally called “Goose Hill”.
Jeffrey H. Thompson was selected as our “Member Spotlight” a few weeks ago. Jeff, as he is widely known, has a long and distinguished career with the Chestertown VFC and the fire service in general. That career is still going strong and vibrant.
With deep sadness, the Chestertown VFC announces the passing of member Michael O. (Mike) Standridge. Mike was from Rock Hall and belonged to the Rock Hall VFC. After he graduated from Kent County High School, he worked at Dixon Valve here in Chestertown. With his devotion and desire to give back to the community, he then joined the Chestertown VFC.
At our regular meeting on Monday, June 1, 2020, we selected “Life Member” Harry C. Everett for the “Inside the Fire Station – Member Spotlight” to profile this week. Most people may not know him by his given name, but they probably do know him as “Sonny”. Still? Others may know him, but not know his name. However you may know Sonny, he is easily recognizable as a mainstay of our community. For as long as this writer can remember, he has been popular with everyone he meets.
