As part of our long-range plan to improve overall service to our community, the Chestertown VFC has made a rather large change. The decision was made to sell Rescue 6, our rescue truck, and eventually replace it with a Rescue-Engine. There is an apparatus committee currently working on the specifications for the new unit. One of the biggest features carried on Rescue 6 is a Cascade System, which allows the refill of breathing air cylinders at the scene of an emergency. This feature will be temporarily unavailable until the replacement unit is delivered. Until then we will work with our mutual aid companies as needed to continue that important task. Additionally, critical tools carried on Rescue 6, needed to fulfill our mission, have been relocated to units we still have in service.

While we were prevented from bringing you the Easter Bunny in person, he stopped by the fire station and helped our members organize a Virtual Easter Egg Hunt. Take a few minutes and see if you can locate all the Easter Eggs scattered around the fire station and on the equipment.

We have unfortunate news to share! The Easter Bunny has to cancel his plans to tour around Chestertown and vicinity on Sunday, April 12. Given the current Public Health Emergency, the Health Department contacted him and expressed concerns about his event. The Easter Bunny is crestfallen at this sudden turn of events, and is disappointed he won't be able to greet boys and girls of all ages. We certainly share in his disappointment, and look forward to helping him celebrate Easter next year.

With deep sadness, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company announces the passing of Past Member Kevin L. Roe. Kevin came into the company as a Fire Service Explorer in the early 1970's. Exploring is a Boy Scouts of America co-ed program. The Chestertown VFC hosted an Exploring program from the 1960's until just a few years ago. It's purpose as a B.S.A. program was to introduce young people to a potential career path, in our case, firefighting.

Recently, we received a Pet Oxygen Mask, donated by local Girl Scouts. Several years ago, Ms. Pat Bjorke's Daisy Troop 1142 worked with the Chesapeake Animal Welfare Society to purchase these masks, using the monies earned from selling Girl Scout Cookies. Through an unintended misstep, there was a delay in our actually receiving the masks. Daisy Troop 1142 has since promoted within the Girl Scouts and are now designated as Girl Scout Troop 110.
